Pre-Employment Transition Services are designed to help students with disabilities between the ages of 14-21 prepare for life after high school, specifically in the areas of education, training, and employment. Offered at no cost through the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation (USOR), Pre-ETS provides students with the skills and guidance needed to explore career options, develop job-related skills, and plan for their future.
Pre-ETS consists of five main services:
-
Job Exploration Counseling – Helps students identify their interests, strengths, and potential career paths through counseling and research. This process can take between 3-8 hours depending on the student.
-
Work-Based Learning Experiences – Provides real-world work experience through internships, volunteer services, or part-time work to gain hands-on skills in a professional environment. We hold weekly off-the-job coaching opportunities to help implement skills and training.
-
Counseling on Post-Secondary Options – Guides students in exploring options for further education or vocational training, helping them understand the steps necessary to reach their career goals.
-
Workplace Readiness Training – Focuses on developing essential soft skills like communication, teamwork, and time management, which are critical for success in any job.
-
Self-Advocacy Instruction – Teaches students how to advocate for their needs in the workplace, ensuring they understand their rights and responsibilities and can communicate effectively with employers.
Pre-ETS helps students gain confidence, practical skills, and a clearer sense of direction for their future. For parents and teachers, this program ensures students are receiving the necessary support and opportunities to succeed in their transition from school to the workforce.
